- 90g butter salted or unsalted
- 35g golden syrup
- 100g golden caster sugar or regular caster sugar
- 150g rolled oats
Preheat the oven to gas mark 4/350oF/180oC/160oC fan. Grease and line an 8 x 8 inch (20 x 20 cm) square baking tin with parchment paper. Allow the parchment paper to overhang on two opposite sides to make it easier to remove them from the tin.
Add the butter to a microwavable bowl and microwave in 30 second increments until fully melted. Remove from the microwave and immediately mix in the golden syrup and caster sugar. Combine well then fold in the oats ensuring all the oats are fully coated with the butter mix.
Pour the mixture into the prepared baking tin and press down with the back of a spoon or palette knife to ensure it is tight and compact. Bake in the centre of the oven for 25 minutes. It should be golden brown when done.
Allow to cool for 20 minutes then score the top of the bars where you want to cut them. This makes them easier to cut once cooled. Allow them to cool then cut where you scored them. I usually score and cut them into 16 bars.
