Making oat bars or granola bars may seem easy but it can be tricky to get the right quantity of ingredients to ensure they hold together well. These oat bars hold together very well but you do have to ensure the ingredients are measured correctly which is why you should invest in some digital scales if you don't have one. They are held together with a combination of golden syrup and sugar which will caramelise during baking and hold the bars together.

How to Make Crunchy Granola Oat Bars
1. Preheat the oven to gas mark 4/350oF/180oC/160oC fan. Grease and line an 8 x 8 inch (20 x 20 cm) square baking tin with parchment paper. Allow the parchment paper to overhang on two opposite sides to make it easier to remove them from the tin.
2. Add the butter to a microwavable bowl and microwave in 30 second increments until fully melted. Remove from the microwave and immediately mix in the golden syrup and caster sugar. Combine well then fold in the oats ensuring all the oats are fully coated with the butter mix.
3. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking tin and press down with the back of a spoon or palette knife to ensure it is tight and compact. Bake in the centre of the oven for 25 minutes. It should be golden brown when done.
4. Allow to cool for 20 minutes then score the top of the bars where you want to cut them. This makes them easier to cut once cooled. Allow them to cool then cut where you scored them. I usually score and cut them into 16 bars.
