If like me you love prawns then you will absolutely love this recipe for these spicy chilli ginger prawn fritters. They are so delicious and super easy to make.
This spicy prawn fritters recipe is one of my favourites. This is because it combines many of my favourite foods including prawns, chilli and ginger. The recipe also includes spring onions which complement the other ingredients and gives the fritters great flavour.
These spicy prawn fritters can be eaten any time of day but I love them to have them for lunch with a green salad. They are also perfect for a quick snack and they are very filling due to the high protein content. If eating them alone then pair them with some sweet chilli sauce for a tasty treat.

Please find the full list of ingredients and quantities in the recipe card at the end of the post.
- Prawns - I use king prawns also known as shrimp.
- Chilli - I use dried crushed chilli flakes.
- Onions - I use spring onion for this recipe.
- Ginger - fresh root ginger.
- Garlic purée - or you can use garlic powder.
- Carrot - use a fresh grated carrot.
- Flour - use plain flour.
- Egg – use a room temperature egg.
- Lime juice - from a fresh lime.
- Seasonings – salt and black pepper.
- Oil - use any oil of choice for cooking. I use coconut oil for this recipe.
How to Make Prawn Fritters
1. Finely cut your prawns into small pieces then add them to a bowl along with the chilli, spring onions, ginger, garlic puree and grated carrots.
2. In another bowl, mix together the flour, egg and lime juice then add in the prawns with the other ingredients and mix well. Add salt and black pepper if using and mix again.
3. Heat a frying pan with 2 tablespoon of oil on a medium heat, once heated add a tablespoon of the mixture to the pan and press flat. If you have space, you can cook a few at once.
4. Cook for 3 minutes then turn the fritters over and cook for another 3 minutes. Remove them from the pan and repeat this process until all the fritter mixture is used up.
Recipe Tips
- Cut the prawns as small as possible to avoid the fritters breaking up when they are cooking.
- The fritters are very delicate so be gentle with them when cooking them.
- Another way to prevent them breaking is to ensure you keep them quite small. If they are too large, they may not hold together well.
